PPF Calculator
Project your public provident fund wealth returns easily

Quick answer
A PPF calculator estimates your Public Provident Fund maturity value with F = P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i), where P is the yearly deposit, i the interest rate and n the years. At the current PPF rate of 7.1% (October to December 2026 quarter), investing the maximum ₹1,50,000 a year for 15 years grows to about ₹40,68,209: ₹22,50,000 invested plus ₹18,18,209 in tax-free interest.
Our free PPF calculator shows how much your Public Provident Fund account will be worth at maturity. Enter your yearly deposit, the interest rate and the time period (15 years or with 5-year extensions), and the PPF calculator gives you the maturity value, the total amount you invested and the interest earned.
PPF is one of India's most popular long-term, government-backed savings schemes. This calculator helps you plan deposits, compare extensions and see the power of tax-free compounding. Everything runs in your browser.
What Is PPF?
The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a savings scheme backed by the Government of India. It offers a fixed interest rate set every quarter by the government, a 15-year lock-in and attractive tax benefits. You can open an account at a post office or most major banks. |---|---|
| Current interest rate | 7.1% a year (October to December 2026 quarter) |
| Minimum deposit | ₹500 a year |
| Maximum deposit | ₹1,50,000 a year |
| Lock-in period | 15 years, extendable in blocks of 5 years |

- Maturity value: ₹1,50,000 × 27.12 ≈ ₹40,68,209.
- Total invested: ₹1,50,000 × 15 = ₹22,50,000.

PPF Calculator Examples at 7.1%
| Yearly deposit | Period | Total invested | Interest earned | Maturity value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹12,000 | 15 years | ₹1,80,000 | ₹1,45,457 | ₹3,25,457 |
| ₹50,000 | 15 years | ₹7,50,000 | ₹6,06,070 | ₹13,56,070 |
| ₹1,00,000 | 15 years | ₹15,00,000 | ₹12,12,139 | ₹27,12,139 |
| ₹1,50,000 | 15 years | ₹22,50,000 | ₹18,18,209 | ₹40,68,209 |
| ₹1,50,000 | 20 years | ₹30,00,000 | ₹36,58,288 | ₹66,58,288 |
| ₹1,50,000 | 25 years | ₹37,50,000 | ₹65,58,015 | ₹1,03,08,015 |
Extending your account from 15 to 25 years with the maximum deposit more than doubles the maturity value, because the later years earn interest on a much larger balance.
PPF Rules You Should Know
- Deposit before the 5th: interest is calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of each month, so deposit early in the month, ideally by 5 April for a full year.
- Partial withdrawals: allowed from the 7th financial year, subject to limits.
- Loans: available against your PPF balance from the 3rd to the 6th financial year.
- Extensions: after 15 years you can extend in 5-year blocks, with or without new deposits.
- Rate changes: the government reviews the rate every quarter, so long-term projections are estimates.
PPF vs FD vs SIP
- PPF: government-backed, tax-free returns, 15-year lock-in.
- Fixed deposit: flexible terms but interest is taxable. Compare with our FD Calculator.
- Equity SIP: higher potential returns with market risk. Try our SIP Calculator.
Who Should Use a PPF Calculator?
