Quick answer

To find the Hijri date of any day, pick the Gregorian date and the converter shows the Islamic date. 6 October 2026 is 25 Rabi al-Thani 1448 AH on the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. It also works the other way: 1 Ramadan 1448 AH is expected on Monday 8 February 2027. Local dates can differ by one day because of moon sighting.

Our free Islamic Hijri date converter is useful for checking today’s Islamic date, planning Ramadan and Eid, recording dates on documents and converting birthdays or historical dates between the two calendars.

About the Hijri Calendar

The Hijri (Islamic) calendar is a lunar calendar. It starts from the Hijrah, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE. Each month begins with the new crescent moon and lasts 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year has about 354 or 355 days, roughly 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan and Eid move earlier each year.

Step 4: Adjust for Local Moon Sighting

The converter follows the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia. In countries such as Pakistan and India, the Islamic date is often one day behind. Choose 1 day behind and 6 October 2026 shows as 24 Rabi al-Thani 1448.

Why Hijri Dates Can Differ by a Day

Many countries start each Islamic month only after the new moon is actually seen, and the moon may be visible in one country a day earlier than in another. Calculated calendars like Umm al-Qura are fixed in advance, so they can be a day ahead of local sighting. For religious occasions such as the start of Ramadan or Eid, always follow the announcement of your local moon sighting committee.

Common Uses

Tips

  • Write Hijri dates with AH, for example 1 Ramadan 1448 AH, to avoid confusion with Gregorian years.
  • For dates far in the past, the calculated calendar may not match what was used locally at the time.
  • Everything is calculated in your browser using its built-in Islamic calendar.
