Quick answer

A Pig Latin translator turns English into the playground language Pig Latin. Words that start with consonants move those letters to the end and add "ay" (pig becomes igpay), while words that start with a vowel just get "ay" or "way" added (apple becomes appleay or appleway). Type your text, pick a dialect and copy the result.

Our free Pig Latin translator converts whole sentences as you type and shows 500 copy-ready versions: the plain translation plus styles framed with pigs, scrolls, masks, sparkles and stars. It is handy for secret messages between friends, classroom word games, party invites, puzzle hunts and funny social posts.

What Is Pig Latin?

Pig Latin is not a real language. It is an English word game that children have used for more than a century to "hide" what they are saying from adults. There is no Latin in it at all; the name is a joke. Because it follows two simple rules, anyone who knows them can decode it, which is part of the fun. A Pig Latin translator applies those rules to every word for you, so long sentences stay consistent.

Pig Latin Rules the Translator Follows

  • Consonant start: every consonant before the first vowel moves to the end, then "ay" is added (glove becomes oveglay).
  • Vowel start: the word stays as it is and gets "ay" or "way", depending on the dialect you pick.
  • Y at the start: treated as a consonant, so yellow becomes ellowyay.
  • No vowels: words such as rhythm or my have no A, E, I, O or U, so they only get "ay" added.
  • Capitals: a capital first letter stays at the front of the new word, so Hello becomes Ellohay.

Where to Use Pig Latin Translator Output

  • Secret notes and chats: send playful coded messages to friends or siblings.
  • Classrooms: teachers use Pig Latin to practise syllables, vowels and consonant blends.
  • Party games and puzzle hunts: hide clues that players must decode.
  • Social posts and captions: a quick joke caption that makes followers stop and read twice.
  • Usernames and nicknames: igpay or ellohay-style names that are unusual but still pronounceable.

Pig Latin Translator Tips

  • Remove punctuation before translating. Commas and exclamation marks stay attached to the word and can end up in the middle, for example Hello! becomes Ello!hay.
  • Words starting with "qu" move only the Q, so quick becomes uickqay rather than the "ickquay" some people use.
  • Short sentences are easier for friends to decode than long paragraphs.
  • Decorated styles use emoji, so check how they look in the app where you paste them.

The Pig Latin translator runs fully in your browser. Your text is never uploaded or saved, and the tool is free to use with no sign-up and no word limit.
