Use this free EPF calculator to estimate how much your Employees’ Provident Fund will be worth when you retire. Enter your basic salary plus DA, your and your employer’s contribution rates, your current EPF balance, expected yearly increments, the interest rate and the years left to retirement. The tool shows your projected corpus, total contributions and interest earned.

Quick answer

Each month you contribute 12% of basic pay plus DA to EPF, and your employer adds 3.67% to EPF (the rest goes to the pension scheme). EPFO pays interest on the monthly running balance, credited once a year; the rate for FY 2025-26 is 8.25%. With a ₹30,000 basic salary, a ₹2,00,000 opening balance, 6% yearly raises and 8.25% interest, your EPF could reach about ₹92.1 lakh in 25 years.

EPF is one of the biggest retirement savings for salaried people in India, yet most employees only look at the balance when they change jobs. A projection makes the long-term picture clear and shows how much salary growth and time add to the final amount.

This EPF calculator follows the EPFO method of monthly running balances and yearly interest credit. It runs in your browser and saves nothing.

What Is EPF?

The Employees’ Provident Fund is a retirement savings scheme run by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Both you and your employer contribute every month, the money earns a government-declared interest rate, and you can withdraw the balance at retirement or in specific situations such as unemployment, home purchase or medical needs.

How EPF Contributions Work

Employee12% of basic + DAEPF account
Employer3.67% of basic + DAEPF account
Employer8.33% of basic + DA (capped)Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS)
EmployerSmall admin and insurance chargesEPFO administration and EDLI

The EPS share is usually capped at ₹1,250 a month (8.33% of ₹15,000). If your basic pay is above ₹15,000 and you are not in the higher pension option, more of the employer’s 12% may go to EPF. For a ₹30,000 basic salary that would be about 7.83% instead of 3.67%, so check your payslip and enter the right figure.

EPF Interest Calculation

  • Interest is worked out every month on the running balance.
  • Monthly interest = balance × annual rate ÷ 12
  • The total for the year is credited to your account at the end of the financial year.
  • The EPF interest rate for FY 2025-26 is 8.25%, the same as the year before.

For example, with ₹4,701 added each month and no opening balance, interest for the first year is about ₹2,521 at 8.25%.

How to Use the EPF Calculator

Step 1: Enter Salary and Contribution Details

Type your monthly basic salary plus DA, your contribution rate (usually 12%) and your employer’s EPF share. Add your current EPF balance from the EPFO passbook, an expected yearly salary increase, the interest rate and the number of years until retirement.

Step 1 enter salary and contribution details in the EPF calculator

Step 2: See Your Projected EPF Corpus

Press Calculate EPF Balance. With ₹30,000 basic, a ₹2,00,000 balance, 6% raises and 8.25% interest for 25 years, the projected corpus is about ₹92,14,984. Of that, ₹23,70,147 comes from your own contributions, ₹7,24,870 from your employer and ₹59,19,967 from interest.

Step 2 EPF calculator showing projected corpus of 92,14,984 after 25 years

Step 3: Compare Different Time Frames

Change the years to see how much time matters. Over 15 years the same inputs give about ₹29,81,552. The extra ten years more than triple the corpus because compounding speeds up as the balance grows.

Tips to Grow Your EPF

  • Avoid early withdrawals when you change jobs; transfer the balance through the UAN portal instead.
  • Consider the Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF) to contribute more than 12% at the same interest rate.
  • Check your passbook regularly to make sure employer deposits are on time.
  • Link your Aadhaar, PAN and bank details to your UAN to avoid claim delays.

Tax on EPF

Employee contributions qualify for deduction under Section 80C in the old tax regime. Interest on yearly employee contributions above ₹2.5 lakh (₹5 lakh where there is no employer contribution) is taxable. Withdrawals after five years of continuous service are generally tax-free. Rules change, so confirm with a tax adviser.

Compare EPF with other long-term options using the PPF Maturity Calculator and NPS Calculator, or estimate your end-of-service lump sum with the Gratuity Calculator.
