Tip Calculator
Tip Calculator
Calculate tips instantly and split the bill seamlessly

Quick answer
A tip calculator finds the tip with Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100, then splits the total between your group. For example, a 15% tip on a 2,400 bill is 360, making the grand total 2,760. Split between 4 people, each person pays 690, including a 90 tip each.
Our free tip calculator works out the right tip and splits the bill in seconds. Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage or tap a quick preset (10%, 15%, 18% or 20%), add the number of people, and the tip calculator shows the total tip, the grand total, the tip per person and exactly how much each person should pay.
It is perfect for restaurants, cafés, food delivery, taxis, salons and group dinners where nobody wants to do maths at the table. It works with any currency and runs entirely in your browser.
What Is a Tip?
A tip, also called a gratuity, is an extra amount paid to service staff on top of the bill to thank them for good service. It is usually calculated as a percentage of the bill before tax. Customs differ widely between countries, as explained in this overview of gratuity around the world.
Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100
Grand total = Bill + Tip
Per person = Grand total ÷ Number of people
How to Use the Tip Calculator
Follow these five quick steps:
Step 1: Enter the Total Bill Amount
Type the amount on your receipt in the Total Bill Amount box, for example 2400.

Step 2: Choose the Tip Percentage
Tap a preset button such as 15%, or type your own percentage in the Tip Percentage box. The tip calculator accepts any value, including 0 if a service charge is already included.

Step 3: Enter the Number of People
Enter how many people are sharing the bill in Number of People (Split). Use 1 if you are paying alone.

Step 4: Click Calculate Split
Press Calculate Split. The tip calculator works out the tip and divides everything evenly.

Step 5: Read the Amount Each Person Pays
The big number is the Total Per Person to Pay. Below it you will see the Total Tip, the Tip Per Person and the Grand Total (Bill + Tip).

Tip Calculation Example
- Bill: 2,400 for a dinner of 4 people.
- Tip at 15%: 2,400 × 15 ÷ 100 = 360.
- Grand total: 2,400 + 360 = 2,760.
- Per person: 2,760 ÷ 4 = 690, of which 90 is tip.

How Much Should You Tip?
There is no single rule, and expectations change from country to country. In the United States, 15% to 20% at sit-down restaurants is widely seen as standard. In the UK and much of Europe, many restaurants add a service charge, and around 10% is common when they do not. In Pakistan, India and the Gulf, 5% to 10% is a typical thank-you unless a service charge is already on the bill. Always check the receipt first, and use the tip calculator to apply whatever rate feels fair.
Quick Mental Tipping Tricks
- 10%: move the decimal point one place left. 10% of 1,850 = 185.
- 20%: double the 10% figure. 20% of 1,850 = 370.
- 15%: take 10% and add half of it. 185 + 92.50 = 277.50.
- Round up: rounding the total to a neat number makes cash payments easier.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 15% tip on a 2,400 bill is 2,400 × 15 ÷ 100 = 360.
How do I split a bill with a tip?
Add the tip to the bill to get the grand total, then divide by the number of people. With a 2,760 total and 4 people, each pays 690.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Traditionally the tip is calculated on the bill before tax, but many people tip on the full amount for simplicity. Enter whichever amount you prefer in the tip calculator.
What is a good tip percentage?
It depends on the country and the service. 15% to 20% is common in the US, while around 5% to 10% is usual in many other countries. Check whether a service charge is already included.
Can I enter a custom tip percentage?
Yes. Type any value in the Tip Percentage box, such as 12.5, instead of using the preset buttons.
Is the tip calculator free?
