Word Game
Play this daily word game: guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries. Unlimited play!
Play this free daily word game in your browser: guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. After each guess the tiles change colour to show which letters are right, which are in the word but in the wrong spot, and which are not in the word at all. Unlike the one-puzzle-a-day original, you can play as many rounds as you like.
Quick answer
Type a five-letter word and press Enter. Green means the letter is correct and in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different position, and grey means the letter is not in the word. Use the clues to narrow down the answer within six guesses.
Table of Contents
Word puzzles like this became a daily habit for millions of people because a round takes only a few minutes and still makes you think. This version keeps the familiar rules and adds unlimited play, so you can practise strategies or keep going when one puzzle a day is not enough.
This daily word game works on phones, tablets and computers. Use the on-screen keyboard or your physical keyboard.
Daily Word Game Rules
- The hidden answer is a common five-letter English word.
- You have six guesses.
- Each guess must have five letters. Press Enter to submit.
- After a guess, each tile turns green, yellow or grey.
- Guess the word to win, or see the answer after six tries.
What the Colours Mean
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Right letter in the right spot |
| Yellow | Letter is in the word, but in a different spot |
| Grey | Letter is not in the word (or already accounted for) |
Repeated letters are handled carefully. If you guess a word with two Es and the answer has only one, only one E is marked green or yellow; the other turns grey.
How to Play the Daily Word Game
Step 1: Make Your First Guess
Type a five-letter starting word and press Enter. Here the guess is STARE. Only the T turns yellow, so T is in the word but not second, and S, A, R and E are out. The on-screen keyboard also shades used letters, so you know what is left.

Step 2: Use the Clues to Narrow It Down
In another round, STARE gives a green A in the middle and yellow T and R. The next guess, TRAIN, moves T and R and turns the first three letters green: the answer starts with TRA and has no I or N.

Step 3: Solve the Word and Play Again
With TRA- locked in, TRACK is a natural guess, and all five tiles turn green. The result card shows the answer and how many tries you used, here 3 out of 6. Press Share Score to copy your result or Play Again for a new word.

Tips for Solving in Fewer Guesses
- Start with common letters. Words such as STARE, CRANE or SLATE test frequent letters like S, T, R, A and E.
- Use a second word with new letters if the first guess gives few clues.
- Do not reuse grey letters. Each guess should test something new.
- Move yellow letters. A yellow letter must go somewhere else next time.
- Think about patterns. Endings such as -ER, -CH, -CK and -IGHT are common.
- Watch for double letters such as in GLASS or APPLE.
Why Word Games Are Good for You
Short word puzzles build vocabulary and spelling, and they reward logical thinking, since each guess is a small experiment. Teachers often use them as a five-minute warm-up, and many adults enjoy them as a brain break with a coffee.
Daily Word Game for Classrooms
- Project the game and let the class vote on each guess.
- Ask students to explain why they chose a word, using the colour clues.
